History of Gorakhpur Uttar Pradesh

The city of Gorakhpur is famous for many reasons nowadays, the Uttar Pradesh, and one of the most famous personalities in India Yogi Aditya is from Gorakhpur, the city also has the world's largest railway track, Geeta press on the oldest and biggest publisher of religious book and many more.
But Gorakhpur has a brief and great history so let's look after it
• Gorakhpur is a city in Uttar Pradesh, an Indian state. Geographically it is situated along the banks of Rapti river in the Purvanchal region.
• Since times immemorial, Gorakhpur has been the land of ancient glory. The rich socio-cultural heritage which has been preserved by the people of Gorakhpur is something that attracts many tourists. From the historical view –
• From the historic point of view, the region has been a significant center of the Aryan culture and civilization. The earliest known monarch was ‘IKSVAKU’ The founder of the solar dynasty of Kshatriya.
• Ruled by many dynasties and empires like the Mauryas, Sungas, Kushana, Gupta, and Harsha.
• In medieval times pharma like most of the Indian subcontinent was under the rule of Muslim rulers from Mohammed Ghori to Bahadur Shah. The Goraksha, a popular deity, was conversed in a mosque and a vast burial of cultural heritage took place.
• During modern times it was cessed by British rule by Nawab of Awadh and got the status of a ‘District’. Mr. Routledge became the first collector of this district.
• Following 1865, the region witnessed some new districts formation, starting with district ‘Basti’ and later in 1946 ‘Deoria’, at last, another district was carved out and named ‘Mahrajaganj’ in 1989. Cultural Importance –
• The Buddha scripts coin the place for the renunciation of the great Gautam Buddha, in 600 BC. It’s also connected with Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara, and the founder of Jainism.
• The place has been popular for the Gorakhnath, a great guru and his Samadhi attracts a large number of pilgrims here.
• From the birthplace of famous Saint like Kabir, the region has also witnessed the foundation of the Geeta press, famous for Hindu religious books all over the world.
• In the modern era, the Chauri Chaura incident of 4th February 1922 is treated as the turning point for the freedom struggle of India. Our first Prime Minister was also executed on trial here and sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment in 1940.
Conclusion – With having one of the richest and most glorious pasts Gorakhpur provides consciousness about how rigidly it preserved its own culture which evolved with this sway under different rulers and foreign powers but never lost its own essence.
